Back in the late spring, we completed a custom kitchen for Celeste, who lives in beautiful Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. Her kitchen had seen many years of use, was outdated and ready for a change!
We asked Celeste to tell us about her experience, what she hated about her old kitchen, and why she loves her new one.

Why did you choose henhouse for your kitchen remodel?
Initially, I was planning on just a make-over for my 32 year old kitchen, i.e. painting the oak cabinets and and changing the hardware. My daughter-in-law recommended Joe Gallant, the carpenter for henhouse. Joe visited my house, along with his painter, Mike. After consulting with Joe, I decided a new kitchen would better suit my needs.

Tell us a bit about the design process.
Once I decided on a, “New Kitchen,” Joe informed me the first step was to set up an in home consult with henhouse designer, Sappho. The consultation with Sappho went very smoothly. She was easy to talk with and very efficient. Sappho developed a kitchen design, that met all my needs. She was also available to answer my questions. I am extremely pleased with her work!
How would you describe your style? How does your new kitchen fit in?
I am not really sure what my actual design style is. However, I would describe it as mainly traditional/classic. I also like clean lines, with soft warm colours. My new kitchen fits in very well with my design style. Classic with a clean contemporary feel, maybe transitional.

What was your least favourite thing about your old kitchen? How was that resolved?
My least favourite thing about my old kitchen was the oak cabinetry, darkened with age. This was resolved with beautiful white European overlay/door and drawer style ogee edge detail cabinetry.

What do you like about your new kitchen?
I like everything about my new kitchen! The brightness and efficient storage. Particularly the cool Lemans corner unit and my spice storage drawer. Also love the cabinetry area that kind of looks like a hutch.

The glass inserts in some of the cabinets help to brighten the kitchen and give it a more open and airy feel. The area above the fridge for my baking sheets and trays is another great feature. The pantry provides wonderful storage space with easy accessibility. It’s a pleasure to work in my kitchen and cleanup is a breeze, with a place for everything! Overall I love Sappho’s design and Joe Gallant’s workmanship!

Do you have one piece of advice for those considering a kitchen reno in the near future?
Do your research and consult with a professional designer. I highly recommend henhouse! A wonderful investment to our home!
Thank you Celeste! We were so glad to work with you,and happy to hear that you are loving your new kitchen!
